The History of Nike Brand

Nike, Inc. is a multi-billion shoe company located in Beaverton, Oregon. They sell brands of athletic shoes, sports equipment and clothes. Nike company is one of the youngest but dominant shoe brand in the world.

Nike Co-founders

Nike, Inc. was founded in 1964 by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. Phil Knight was an athlete who trained under Bill Bowerman who was his coach. Bill Bowerman wanted to improve his student’s performance by enhancing the athletic shoes. Phil Knight went to further his MBA in Finance at standard University. He suggested manufacture of athletic shoes in Japan to compete for that of Germany, but they did not implement the idea.

Nikes First shoe design

The founders launched a lightweight training shoe in 1971 that made Steven premontane to win seven American records from 2000 to 10000 meters. Nick started air technology in 1979 to expand on the nick brand that grew popular by 1982 making it the No 1 shoe supplier for the athletic training shoes in America.

Nike’s Logo Designed in 1988

The company was growing fast, and there was the need to come up with a trademark to show ownership of the brand. Nike’s brand logo ‘Swoosh ‘and the tagline of ‘just do it’ was designed by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland state university. She received $35 but twelve years later awarded a gold ring and a certificate for designing a successful logo.

Nike’s Achievement

Nike has been on the forefront in improving their brand. They invented a new brand Nike Shox in 2000 to help athletes win games. Several brands for tennis, baseball, cricket and athletics are in the market.

Nike is a Multibillion company worth $24 billion as of 2012 data. The achievement was brought by buying and merging new companies. Right now it partners with Converse Inc. and Hurley International.

Nike Inc. sponsors football, tennis and basketball players as a way to give back to the community.
